RIVERSIDE, NY — A woman was arrested Monday after hitting someone in the head with a hammer while a child was present in Riverside in October, police said.
According to Southampton Police, the initial incident took place on Monday, October 30 at 8 p.m. Southampton patrol officers responded to a report of an assault with a hammer in the Riverside area, police said.
Police learned that an adult was struck in the head with a hammer in the presence of a juvenile, who was pushed during the incident. the suspect fled, authorities said.
The adult victim was transported for medical attention. Southampton police detectives responded and investigated, authorities added.
On Monday, Dec. 4, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Ligia Lopez Menendez, 37, of Flanders, was located by the Southampton Town Police Department's Community Response Unit, police said. He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child. felony aggravated criminal contempt, and second-degree assault, a felony, police said.
He was processed and held overnight to be arraigned in the morning, police said.
