BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — A woman was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Bridgehampton on Saturday after she ran a stop sign with a child in the car, police said.
According to Southampton Police, the incident occurred at approximately 3:32 p.m. in the area of Ocean Road and Church Lane. Passing motorists reported that a driver, southbound on Ocean Road, had left the travel portion of the road, hit a stop sign and proceeded east on Sagaponack Road, police said.
Patrol officers located the vehicle a short distance away, with the driver in the passenger seat and a child in the back passenger seat, officials said. The ensuing investigation revealed the driver had run a stop sign, damaging the sign and the front end of her vehicle, police said.
No injuries were reported, police said.
Nina V. Popova, 46, of New York, New York, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under 17, a felony. DWI, a misdemeanor, and acting in a manner detrimental to a child under 17, a misdemeanor. she was also issued a traffic ticket, police said.
Popova was taken to Southampton police headquarters, where she was processed and held for a morning arraignment, police said.
