At the Nov. 23 city council meeting, the city council voted to award a $149,796 contract to Ramboll to prepare a Climate Action Plan. The city is part of the Climate Smart Community program, an initiative of the New York Department of Environmental Conservation aimed at combating climate change. The development of the Climate Action Plan is one of the recommended critical steps to achieve this goal. The Plan will provide a roadmap of recommendations and actions to achieve the city's sustainability goals.
The City has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for this project with a deadline of September 30 for proposals. Three companies responded to the RFP. In ranking and scoring proposals, the Ramboll submission was found to meet all RFP requirements, having the most relevant experience and expertise to meet the city's climate goals.
As part of the one-year contract, Ramboll will assess all greenhouse gas emissions for the city's facilities and the community at large and create a cost-benefit analysis of the various action items the city can take to reduce our consumption and achieve the goal of 100% renewable energy by 2025 and carbon net neutrality by 2040. The Climate Action Plan will then be adopted as an addition to the 1999 Comprehensive Plan, as will the Sustainability Plan.
“This is an essential step in achieving our sustainability goals in an efficient and cost-effective manner. I look forward to working with Ramboll and gathering the necessary metrics to be able to guide our board and future boards on how to achieve the goals the state has set before us,” said Councilman John Bouvier, the its main sponsor is legislation. “I hope other municipalities will follow suit.”
