In order to continue to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Councilor Martel and the City of Southampton Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management will be distributing home testing kits in Hampton Bays. The Hampton Bays pop-up location will be located at King Kullen Shopping Center and will be held on Thursday, March 3, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm in front of the mall.
The test kits were provided through a partnership with Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone's office and will be distributed throughout the city of Southampton. The tests to be distributed are rapid test kits with each kit containing two (2) tests. The tests are carried out using nasal swabs and a process similar to what many people have experienced in recent years when they are tested at different sites. There are instructions and a mobile app to guide users through the process. Results should be available within 10 minutes.
The City of Southampton is working to continue to spread testing so people know if they have been infected with COVID-19 so they can stay home, stop the spread of the disease and keep everyone safe. “It's imperative that we get our households tested so we can continue to see the numbers come down and get back to all the activities we've lost,” said Councilman Rick Martel. “I want to thank Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone for this partnership, which has allowed us to continue to provide resources that prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
Those in need can receive up to two kits per household on a first-come, first-served basis. King Kullen Mall is located at 52 E Montauk Hwy, Hampton Bays. For more information on how to get a COVID-19 test at home, people can go to: www.covidtests.gov
