SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Southampton Village is set to host a “Clean Water Project” community forum to discuss efforts to create a downtown drainage district in the village's business district.
The event takes place on Saturday 19 October from 10am. to noon in the meeting room of Southampton Village Hall. The Village Hall is located at 23 Main Street in Southampton.
Southampton Village board members, the Clean Water Project Committee and Dr. Christopher Gobler will attend the presentation and discussion.
Along with a presentation, the discussion will touch on topics such as why a drainage area is needed. what would the sewage treatment plant look like? how would it work and more, with the goal of dispelling “any myths or misconceptions,” officials said.
Community members are encouraged to attend, ask questions and participate in the session.
The goal is to “engage residents in the project, provide transparency and solicit feedback,” officials said. “A drainage district is desperately needed to address persistent pollution of Lake Agawam and other village water bodies. A drainage system would enhance the business district and allow for more restaurants and additional affordable housing options.”
