EAST HAMPTON, NY — “Make East Hampton Litter Free.” That's the subject of a citywide effort planned to address East Hampton's ever-growing trash issue, officials said.
East Hampton Town's Litter Action Committee will host the 2nd annual “No-Fling Spring,” a coordinated month-long series of events focused on raising awareness and taking action to address the ever-growing litter problem.
“Litter on the side of the road is not only an aesthetic nuisance, but ends up in our natural areas and precious water bodies, affecting many species of wildlife. Our goal is to bring together and engage the entire city in a community effort to” Make East Hampton Litter Free.” ” officials said.
More than 10 litter pickups with at least 13 different groups participating from Montauk to Wainscott are scheduled between April 20 and May 18.
Volunteers are asked to bring gloves and wear brightly colored clothing. Trash bags will be provided. Yellow vests and litter pick-up poles will be available while they last.
“During this season of celebrating Earth Day, all residents are encouraged to join them
neighbors and form their own cleanup teams if organized group cleanups are not convenient,” the city said.
