HAMPTON BAYS, NY — Sunday's storm wreaked havoc on Shinnecock Inlet's west beach — with new concerns about erosion.
At least one resident, Rich of Southampton, posted photos of the beach next door Monday, declaring that Shinnecock Inlet's west beach is “officially gone.”
When asked about the effects of the storm, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Snyderman said “there has been some erosion on the west side of the inlet. A lot of the sand that was recently placed there by the county dredging of the east section has been washed away.”
Officials were assigned to assess the erosion, he said.
