The Suffolk County Marathon wants to help spectators follow their favorite runners this year and help runners stay updated on their progress and more using the new RaceJoy app.
This is the first year the Suffolk County Marathon will use the tool.
RaceJoy is an app created by runners who felt there could be a better way to keep track of runners during a race so that family doesn't miss them and runners can pace themselves while they can play music. RaceJoy is available on Apple and Android devices and is free to download. RaceJoy provides real-time interaction between participants and supporters for the entire race. What does this mean for spectators and runners?

For spectators, the app allows you to track up to 50 participants continuously throughout the race if they have the app and can send you alerts when the runner is close with an approximate time of arrival. It also has a feature that actually allows you to send pre-recorded and text-to-cheer messages that will be sent to the racer in audio form so you can cheer them on even when you're not there.
For runners, this app tracks different types of data without compromising performance. The app sends audio messages about your progress, pace and estimated time of arrival approximately every mile. When you finish it will send you the overall results and the match results for your division only. All of these features are in the app and require no additional accessories, which is an affordable way to do this race like a pro. It also lets you still listen to music (with options to turn off notifications so you won't be bothered if you choose to) and optimizes battery life so you don't have to recharge your bat throughout the match.

Mike Polansky, president of the Greater Long Island Running Club, said, “We are especially excited about the new RaceJoy program that we will use this year to send progress updates to participants and spectators at each mile, with each runner's time and pace . estimated end time'.
This is the third annual Catholic Health Services Marathon and FreedomFest and this year it will be held in Patchogue on October 29th. FreedomFest is a family-friendly festival that begins after the race starts and will feature entertainment, local bands and local food, wine and beer.
All net proceeds will go toward expanding and enhancing Suffolk County veterans services. Racers can register for Racejoy during the registration process.
Online registration is open until October 25 at 5pm at http://www.suffolkmarathon.com
