Suffolk County Community College Named 2022-23 Military Friendly School
with a gold rating from militaryfriendly.com after its comprehensive evaluation
college services using both public data and proprietary survey responses
finished college. More than 1,800 schools took part in the 2022-2023 survey with 665 winning special awards for exceeding standards.
“Suffolk County Community College has a proud history of serving and assisting veterans
and military affiliates pursue their educational goals,” said College President Dr.
Edward Bonagiu. “We are proud to support those who have served our country,” he said,
“and we're proud to call ourselves a military-friendly school.”
Suffolk County Community College is dedicated to the transition from the military
easier classroom service for veterans and to make higher education more affordable
for service members and their families.
“Suffolk County Community College provides service members, veterans and military
families with the flexibility and convenience they need to excel,” said Suffolk County
Community College Director of Veterans Affairs Shannon O'Neill.
O'Neill said Suffolk recently relocated the Ammerman Campus Veterans Resource Center
in a new space as a result of a New York State economic development grant. New,
modern and comfortable space, in the renovated Kreiling Hall of O'Neill College
he said, is equipped with student computers, a spacious lounge and resource center.
O'Neill explained that Suffolk County Community College offers strong staffed services
with military and veteran benefits experts and community resources through
Veterans Resource Centers located on all College campuses.
Services are available in person and virtually for Active Duty, Guard, Reserve,
Veterans and their dependents, according to O'Neill. The College, O'Neill said, too
the application fee is waived for all currently serving individuals as well as Veterans
and their dependents.
Suffolk's final scores were determined by combining the college's survey response
aggregate and public data sources from the government/agency as part of a logic-based scoring assessment.
The institution's ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, employment
placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer), and loan default
rates were measured for all students and, specifically, student veterans.
