Ruby Jackson: Delicious Inspiration, a sculpture exhibit, is on view online as a presentation of Suffolk County Community College's Eastern Campus Lyceum College Gallery. A Zoom reception with the artist will be announced.
Ruby Jackson of Sag Harbor has created a large and distinctive body of work in wood, ceramic, paper, pen and ink, and polymer clay. Her images are inspired by natural forms which she abstracts and explores. In them one can see her love for the sunrise and especially her interest in underwater environments. On view are Jackson's miniature sculptures of food and underwater seascapes created in multimedia.
Jackson's work has been exhibited in galleries in New York, Long Island, and Sarasota, Florida. Jackson appeared at 'Takeover', Southampton Art Center in 2019, where she shared her artistic process alongside her work.
Jackson is a two-time recipient of the “Best Sculpture” award at the Guild Hall Members' Show (East Hampton, 2017, 1996). Her work has appeared in numerous reviews and publications, including Newsday's “Tiny Food Made of Clay by Sag Harbor Artist,” by Kay Bough and Hamptons.com,
Jackson grew up in Queens and developed a variety of sculptural techniques while living in New York. After moving to Long Island, Jackson earned a bachelor's degree in art education from Long Island University. For more than a decade, he served as Assistant to the Director of the Pollock-Krasner home in East Hampton.
Jackson is passionate about teaching art to children and has conducted workshops in public schools, as well as for the Nature Conservancy, the South Fork Natural History Museum, and the Children's Museum of the East End.
