BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — A new garden and outdoor classroom has been lovingly planted at a Bridgehampton school.
Bridgehampton school students came together for a special planting day Wednesday to transform an outdoor space into a “vibrant, pollinator-friendly garden,” the district said.
The new garden will feature a variety of native Long Island plants.
Designed to be both educational and relaxing, the space will include tables large enough to accommodate every classroom in the school, offering a unique outdoor extension to the classroom, the district said.
In addition to enhancing the aesthetics of the campus, the garden aims to attract a variety of pollinators such as bees and butterflies, helping to support local ecosystems and promoting environmental stewardship among students.
The initiative was first introduced by Bridgehampton agriculture teacher Alexandra Beehan de Souza to the school board last year — and the plan blossomed through a partnership with ReWild Long Island, a nonprofit that promotes sustainable landscaping for biodiversity and resilience in the climate.
Project funding has been provided by the Bridgehampton School Environmental Club, HZ Masonry Construction Inc. and Fowler's Garden Center.
“The Bridgehampton school community looks forward to the success of this planting day, as well as the garden's positive impact on students and the local environment for years to come,” the district said.
