SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — One of the most beloved classics of a generation will soon make its Southampton debut: A staged reading of Tennessee Williams' “The Glass Menagerie,” Center Stage's production at the Southampton Arts Center, opens Jan. 27 for a weekend at Southampton Arts Centre, located at 25 Jobs Lane.
The shows will take place on Saturday, January 27 at 14.00 and 19.00 and on Sunday, January 28 at 14.00
“The Glass Menagerie,” said SAC, is “a well-known and beloved classic work of literature.” . “a strongly autobiographical memoir that provides a multifaceted look at a dysfunctional family in the late 1930s. It delves into family obligations, human frailty, and the misplaced hopes and dreams of its characters.”
Joan Bennett Lyons directs.
The cast includes Tamara Froebel Salkin as Amanda, Zianya Quiroz Kane as Laura, Vincenzo Harty as Tom, Kieran Conlon as Jim and Kristin Whiting as host.
The play features characters “based on its author, his historical mother and his mentally fragile sister. In writing the play, Williams drew on an earlier short story as well as a screenplay he had written titled “The Gentleman Caller,” SAC said.
Williams has long been lauded as one of America's most remarkable playwrights.
Guests can round off the afternoon or evening with dinner, SAC said, with a 15 percent discount at Southampton Publik House or a $25 brunch on Sunday, Jan. 28 at Fellingham's.
