SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — A longtime athletic director in Southampton has won a prestigious award.
Southampton School District Athletic Director Darren Phillips was recognized as the Suffolk Zone Physical Education Director of the Year by the New York State Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Association at a Jan. 20 ceremony, the district said.
Phillips earned the designation after his district's physical education staff nominated him for the prestigious title.
“I am honored to receive this award and grateful to work with an amazing physical education staff,” said Phillips. “They continually work to improve physical education each year, providing a quality program for our students that teaches and reinforces the importance of lifelong physical activity and good nutrition.”
He added: “This award is testament to the growth and development of our PE program over the last 20 years since I started at Southampton.”
