SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — The votes are in: Residents headed to the polls Tuesday to weigh in on the Southampton Union Free School District's proposed 2024-25 budget and passed the measure by a wide margin of 617 to 269.
A motion to spend funds from the 2017 10-year capital reserve passed 725 to 158. Also, a motion to spend funds from Southampton's bus fleet replacement capital reserve passed 700 to 162. Another motion, to spend funds from Southampton's capital technology equipment fund reserve, passed 672 to 200. A motion authorizing the sale of property located at 1023 Majors Path in Southampton passed 700 to 168. Motions for the Southampton African American Museum, Southampton Historical Museum Parrish Art Museum and Southampton Youth Association also passed tentatively.
The proposed budget of 79,937,201 reflects a 3.95% spending increase and a 3.54% tax levy increase, within the district's tax cap.
Three Board of Education candidates filed for two open seats, including incumbents James McKenna, Robert Zachary Epley and Ruth B. White-Dunn. Epley, who received the most votes, received 557 votes, White-Dunne received 633 and McKenna received 347.
