SOUTHAMPTON, NY — The City of Southampton Police is now recruiting for the 2025 Citizens Academy.
The popular Civic Police Academy is a training program that invites Southampton city residents to receive specialized training provided at police headquarters aimed at bringing police and the community closer together, officials said.
“It opens the lines of communication and builds trust between the police and the community,” police said. “The Political Academy dispels misconceptions about how the police department works and allows the public to better understand what their police can and cannot do.”
For those thinking of applying but not sure if they can meet the requirements, police assure there is no physical element to the scheme.
Classes are held on a variety of topics, including the laws of arrest, search and seizure, use of force,
drunk driving, drug enforcement, domestic violence, investigations and gangs.
In addition, students have the opportunity to ride with department police officers for a tour of the service and attend a demonstration in the Police Firearms and Emergency Vehicle Operations course.
The City of Southampton Police Department is holding the Citizens Academy 2025 beginning January 16, 2025. The Academy will run for 16 weeks, one night per week, beginning at 6 p.m.
