SOUTHAMPTON, NY — The City of Southampton Police Department's annual “Shop with a Cop” fundraiser — an event aimed at bringing joy to children in need during the holiday season — will be held Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. .
The community is being asked to “join us in making a difference,” police said.
Families will meet us at police headquarters for a holiday meal before heading to Walmart in Riverhead, where each child will be accompanied by a Southampton police officer to do some holiday shopping.
“Shop with a Cop” pairs children from poor families with police officers for a day of holiday shopping and fun, police said.
Each child will receive money to buy gifts for themselves and their families, “fostering a positive relationship between our officers and the community, while ensuring that children experience the joy of giving and receiving during this celebration,” the police said.
“We believe every child deserves a special holiday season, and 'Shop with a Cop' provides a unique opportunity to connect in a meaningful way,” said Southampton Police Chief James Kiernan.
