SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – A music teacher in Southampton has been selected for a prestigious position.
The Southampton School District announced Thursday that middle school band director Danielle Schulman will be named president of the Suffolk County Music Educators Association, beginning in July 2022.
“We are very proud of Danielle and excited to have her in this position,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas Dyno.
Schulman said that when she takes the helm of the student music program, she plans to continue to uphold the tradition of providing Suffolk County student musicians with performance opportunities and subject-specific professional development workshops for educators.
Schulman has taught in the Southampton School District since 2005, when she began her high school career as a music teacher, classroom counselor, musical director, jazz ensemble director and pep band/band director, the district said. In 2015, she transferred to the high school as director of the concert band and jazz ensemble, the district added.
Schulman holds a Bachelor of Arts in music education from Long Island University, CW Post, and a Master of Arts with a concentration in wind conducting from Hofstra University.
Outside of the area, he plays with the North Shore Community Band under the direction of James MacDougall, serves as co-chair of the Hamptons Music Educators Association for world drumming, and is an active adjudicator for the New York State School Music Association festivals.
He is also a professional member of other music clubs. Within the SCMEA, Schulman has served as Division III East band president, assistant vice president of festivals for the East region and co-vice president of festivals.
“I am humbled and honored to serve this wonderful organization as its president-elect and look forward to the journey as SCMEA president,” Schulman said.
