The 15th Annual Charyse Torrence 2-on-2 Basketball Tournament was held on Sunday, March 1st in the Southampton High School gym.
The event is held each year to honor the memory of Cheryse, a beloved student who lost her battle with cancer and was known for her positive outlook, love of basketball and love of the color red.
This year's tournament opened with Charyse coach Junie Wingfield sharing with the 33 teams and spectators his memories of Charyse and the meaning behind the tournament which is one of the longest running high school fundraisers for Make-A- Wish Foundation.
Wingfield introduced Charyse's parents, who were in attendance, and after a group photo was taken, the teams began the double elimination game.
Halfway through the tournament, the 3-point contest took place as participant after participant tried their best to be the last person standing after a single-elimination three-point shot until Olivia Bruyn claimed the prize.
The tournament race continued as fewer and fewer teams were in contention for the championship.
Jesse Scanlon and Shelby Pierson finished in third place after losing to Grace Lynch and Sebastian Pereira.
Lynch and Pereira set their sights on the previously undefeated Team Pike (Taylor and Garrett Pike) for the overall victory.
