SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — The Southampton Center for the Arts has received a state grant to help fuel its mission in the coming months.
According to SAC, the organization has received a $49,500 grant award from the New York State Council on the Arts to “support the recovery of the nonprofit arts and culture sector” after the long months of the pandemic.
Following New York State's $105 million investment in the arts for 2022, NYSCA has awarded more
more than $80 million by June 2021, according to a release.
SAC said the grant will be used to support overall operations, including the presentation of five exhibitions and more than 175 programs.
“Building community through the arts is more than just our mission statement,” said SAC Executive
director Tom Dunn said. “As an arts and culture center dedicated to being a welcoming, inclusive space, our mission requires us to reach out and connect with people of diverse backgrounds, identities and abilities to experience art in a non-intimidating environment. SAC is a place for everyone, all the time. This NYSCA grant award is vital to sustaining institutions like ours at a time when communities need them most.”
Despite the challenges of the pandemic, in 2021, SAC presented six exhibitions with 872 works, featured 391 artists and partnered with 108 organizations to present more than 175 programs with and for our community, serving approximately 45,000 visitors, Dunn said.
With the support of the NYSCA grant, donors and sponsors, SAC aims to strengthen its mission and offerings even further in 2022.
“The arts have long been a critical sector of our economy and as we continue to rebuild a stronger
New York, it is important that we do everything we can to help this industry thrive once again,” said New York State Governor Kathy Hochul.
SAC continues to follow all New York State and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for all programs and events. Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test is required for all theater events. Masks are required in the galleries and in the theater.
