EAST QUOGUE, NY — Funeral services have been set for a young East Quogue man whose death has left the community mourning.
Due to the “overwhelming support and predicted attendance”, for Gianni Mongelluzzo, the narrative was moved to St. Rosalie, 31 E. Montauk Highway, in Hampton Bays and will be held Friday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. The funeral will follow on Saturday at the church of Saint Rosalie.
The 19-year-old died Saturday in a crash in East Quogue, police said.
Michael Mongelluzzo's father posted a message to family and friends on Facebook about his family's unimaginable loss: “We are devastated by the loss of our son Gianni. The outpouring of love from everyone is a testament to his heart and soul Gianni,” he said. “He loved everyone and had a zest for life and a path that was just beginning. My family will never be the same. The sun, moon and stars are gone. We can't see in color, only black and white… Please remember him as the shining light that always wanted to help the next person who might need it.”
She added: “As you know, my sons Michael and Frank and my daughter Ava and my grandchildren need mine and Zelda's love. We will pull together and move forward thinking of Gianni every day. It will be a struggle, but it's what John would have wished for in the end. We are once again overwhelmed by the love and support of our community and friends. We love you all. It's what keeps us on the road to living life again.”
