Proving, once again, that they can perform under pressure, the Lady Whalers field hockey team picked up a win on Saturday afternoon, sending them to the state championships.
In a quadruple overtime that ended in penalty kicks, Pierson-Bridgehampton knocked off Whitney Point, 2-1, at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.
They will advance to the state finals on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Which team they'll face is still unknown — the other semifinal game was going on at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday's.
The Lady Whalers took the state quarterfinals by winning the Southeast Regional Final in the second overtime, finishing 1-0 over Pawling at White Plains High School just last weekend.
