RIVERHEAD, NY — Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) announced today that its recent 2023 Gala, held at the Westhampton Country Club, raised more than $1.58 million to support the hospital's plans to expand Poole Family Trauma and Emergency Center. The Gala was attended by more than 300 people and recorded the highest funds raised by a PBMC Foundation event.
“Peconic Bay Medical Center has made great strides to advance the level of medical care available in Eastern Suffolk, and this effort is due in large part to the support, commitment and passion of our community,” said PBMC Executive Director, Amy Loeb, EdD. MBA, RN. “We are grateful to everyone who attended and donated to make this year's Gala such a success.”
This year's Gala honored the contributions of Joan Levan, who has been the driving force behind the success of the PBMC Gala since its inception in 2006. Since then, Joan has helped raise more than $5 million to modernize and expand the capabilities of Peconic Bay Medical Center's Emergency Department. Thanks to her efforts and the vision of successive hospital directors ranging from Andy Mitchell to now Amy Loeb, Peconic Bay Medical Center has grown into one of the top hospitals in the region and has been recognized by healthcare rating agencies as offering the highest level of patient care available. This includes a Level III Trauma Center, awards of excellence from the American Heart Association and the implementation of new life-saving technology such as Cardiac CT and CVRx Barostim™.
Funds raised will go directly toward expanding PBMC's 6,600 square foot Emergency Department. This expansion will increase the capacity of the Emergency Department by 75 percent and bring more rescue capabilities to the East End. Construction of the new extension is currently underway, with the goal of completion next summer.
“As PBMC looks to the future, the overwhelming success of this year's Annual Gala serves as a powerful reminder of our community's commitment to advocating for improved health care services,” said Thomas and Mary Jane Poole, who co-chaired this year's event and after The Emergency Department was named after his generous donation of $5 million. “The collective impact of this community's support will reverberate for generations to come, providing the foundation for the enhanced care our Emergency Department will be able to provide.”
