RIVERHEAD, NY—Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) is proud to announce that it has been ranked by Healthgrades among the top hospitals in New York State: #2 for Pulmonary Care, #3 for Gastrointestinal Care and #4 for Total Gastrointestinal Care . Earlier this year, PBMC also received awards of excellence for both pulmonary and gastrointestinal care from Healthgrades for 2024. The prestigious recognition underscores the hospital's commitment to excellence in specialty healthcare services to promote the level of care available nearby for residents of Eastern Suffolk County.
“The ranking reflects Peconic Bay Medical Center's continued investment in cutting-edge technologies, recruitment of top talent and a patient-centered approach to health care,” said Peconic Bay Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Amy Loeb, EdD, MBA, RN. “The hospital remains committed to staying at the forefront of medical advancements to provide the highest quality care to the East End community and beyond. We are proud of all our teams for making this possible.”
The high scores in the January 2024 Healthgrades State Ranking Results Review highlight the remarkable strides PBMC has made in its journey to strengthen the health care delivery in Eastern Suffolk County. PBMC was also the only Northwell facility to make the top five in both the gastrointestinal and pulmonary categories. PBMC chief of gastroenterology, Dr. Sara Cerrone, and chief of pulmonology and critical care, Dr. Rajeev Patel, were instrumental in guiding their teams to these achievements. This recognition comes on the heels of PBMC also receiving Five Star ratings for heart attack treatment, heart failure treatment and coronary interventions, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) treatment, pneumonia treatment, stroke treatment, Sepsis Treatment, Respiratory Failure Treatment and Hip Fracture Treatment from Healthgrades.
In 2024, PBMC plans to open its expanded Emergency Department as part of an exciting $92 million investment it announced in June 2023. With this advanced suite of services, PBMC is poised to build on its history of success and continue to provide the most advanced level of healthcare in the region.
Healthgrades ratings are determined by analyzing millions of Medicare patient claims over three years. Healthgrades rates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and complications. By focusing on what matters most – patient outcomes – Healthgrades ratings provide critical feedback for both patients and hospitals. The 2024 Hospital Assessment evaluated patient mortality and complication rates at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify top performers.
