SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — Residents of the city of Southampton will soon be heading to the polls to elect local representatives.
The race is in the run-up to Election Day, which this year is Tuesday, November 7.
Patch asked those running for office to answer questions about their campaigns and will post candidate profiles in the days leading up to the election.
Longtime incumbent and Republican Theresa Kiernan faces Democratic candidate David Glazer to retain her position as Southampton Town Tax Collector.

I love my job and would be honored to continue

My office provides a very important service to the people of Southampton and I intend to continue to provide this service to the highest possible standard.
What are the main differences between you and other candidates seeking this position?
16 years of experience in the position.
What past achievements would you cite as proof that you can handle this job?
I have improved efficiency and was able to reduce staff from 7 to 2 full-time employees, resulting in significant cost savings. Optimal use of technology continues to be an important contributor to efficiency. However, we remain committed to personal attention and service to taxpayers, so I will not be converting to a phone registration — we continue to answer the phone directly.
What is the best advice someone has ever given you?
Listen a lot more than you talk.

I am grateful to go to work every day and provide services to my fellow citizens and would appreciate their support once again on Election Day.
