LONG ISLAND, NY — Heavy rain and gusty winds of up to 44 mph in some areas during Thursday night's storm led to downed trees, branches and power lines — leaving 3,433 currently without power across Long Island, according to PSEG.
As of 8 a.m., PSEG Long Island said power had been restored to more than 6,700 customers affected by the storm as of 3 p.m. Thursday.
PSEG Long Island said it expects the majority of remaining customers affected by the storm to be restored by Friday.
According to Faye Marrone, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton, the bulk of the rain seen Thursday night and into Friday morning has already been pushed east of the area. A few showers and thunderstorms occurred Friday morning west of Long Island in New Jersey, with a low chance of showers and thunderstorms in Long Island Friday afternoon from 2 p.m. 16:00
Winds will continue Friday, with gusts of 30 to 35 mph Friday morning that will gradually decrease by Friday afternoon and night, Marrone said.
Saturday looks dry for Long Island, with winds of 25 to 30 mph in the afternoon and a slight chance of rain, he said.
Temperatures Friday will be in the mid-50s Friday in the East End, with highs around 60 across the rest of Long Island, Marrone said. Overnight, those temperatures will drop into the 40s, with “significantly cooler” temperatures Saturday in the low to mid-50s across Long Island, he said.
