HAMPTON BAY, N.Y. — A driver who crashed into the woods in Hampton Bays was charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday, police said.
According to Southampton Police, the incident took place at 5:26 p.m. in the area of Red Creek Road near Upper Red Creek Road. According to police, a driver was allegedly driving erratically and then crashed into the woods a short time later.
Southampton police responded and assisted other emergency services in removing the driver, who was trapped in the vehicle, authorities said.

The driver, Joseph Carello, 49, of Hampton Bays, was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, police said. Carrello was arrested and charged with felony DWI, as well as vehicle and traffic violations, police said.
