HAMPTON BAY, N.Y. — A man who crashed into a sign and kept driving was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday, police said.
According to Southampton Police, the crash occurred at approximately 12:16 a.m. in the area of Flanders Road and Bellows Pond Road in Hampton Bays. Passing motorists reported that a vehicle, headed south on Flanders Street, left the travel portion of the road, struck a sign and proceeded south on Flanders Street, police said.
Patrol officers located the vehicle about a mile south of the crash site, with the driver going
below the posted speed limit and failed to maintain his lane, police said.
Daniel S. Paute-Quichimbo, 41, of Middle Island, struck a “no parking” sign, damaging the sign and the front end of his vehicle, police said.
No injuries were reported, police said.
Paute-Quichimbo was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor and numerous traffic violations. he was taken to Southampton police headquarters, where he was processed and held for arraignment in the morning, police said.
