HAMPTON BAYS, N.Y. — A Mastic man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a crash on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays Wednesday night, police said.
According to Southampton Police, the two-car crash happened at 8:24 p.m. near Terrace Drive. Officers did not find anyone injured in the crash, but the driver of one vehicle, a 2019 Dodge Ram, fled the scene before police arrived, police said.
A patrol officer on Flanders Street near Spinney Street saw the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, police said. John C. Volpe, 47, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor DUI. leaving the scene of a crash, trespassing. and several other vehicle and traffic law violations, police said.
He was taken to Southampton police headquarters for processing and held overnight for arraignment at Southampton Magistrates' Court in the morning, police said.
