FLANDERS, N.Y. — A Flanders man was arrested Sunday night after he crashed into a utility pole while drunk and fled the scene, police said.
The incident occurred at 9:25 p.m. a 911 call came in for a one-car accident on Suffolk Avenue in Flanders, police said.
When officers arrived, they found a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had gone into a power pole. the driver had fled the area on foot, but, after an investigation, Donis S. Perez Juarez, 22, was located, police said.
Perez Juarez was determined to be driving while intoxicated and was arrested at the scene. He was then taken to Southampton police headquarters, where he was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, a misdemeanor, police said.
He was remanded in custody overnight to appear in Southampton Crown Court in the morning, police said.
