NORTHAMPTON, N.Y. — A Northampton man was arrested this week after hitting a bicyclist and fleeing the scene in January, police said.
According to Southampton Police, on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at approximately 6:59 a.m., patrol officers responded to the area of Wildwood Lake where the bicyclist was struck. The bicyclist was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center with broken bones and multiple injuries, police said.
Southampton Police detectives and New York State Troopers responded to the scene to investigate.

Over the course of several months, information was developed regarding the possible driver and the vehicle involved, police said.
On Monday, Oct. 7, the owner of the vehicle was located by the City of Southampton Community Response Units and transported to Southampton Police Headquarters, according to police.

Daniel Cirello, 36, the owner of the vehicle, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious personal injury, a felony, police said.
He was processed and held for a morning arraignment, police said.
