NORTH FORK, N.Y. — Who's ready to rumble?
In what has become a popular favorite on the North Fork, Championship Entertainment Productions and Lucharitos have teamed up to present “Lucha Rumble 4” on Sunday, March 17th at the Greenport American Legion's. Burton Potter Post 185, located at 102 3rd Street.
The family-friendly event will feature delicious food and cold beer from Lucharitos and Lucha Lager, as well as matches between Roger Mendez and “The Giant” TJ Marconi. A “mystery match” with Leonard Dixon. and “Long Island Land Mine” superstar Joe Ocasio.
Tickets can be purchased at all Lucharitos locations as well as via Venmo @Lucharitos.
Ocasio, president of wrestling company Championship Entertainment Productions, spoke with Patch about why bringing live wrestling to the North Fork means so much.
“You'll see the faces of the kids in the crowd having the time of their lives, eating fresh popcorn with an ice cold soda, ready to cheer and boo the wrestlers.”
In a St. Patrick's Day theme, the event will feature Irish international wrestling star Steve Savage, as well as Greenport's “maligned star” Dixon. “The Giant” – 6 feet, 7 inches tall and 350 pounds. — TJ Marconi? and Heavyweight Champion,” as seen in NWA, “The Landmine,” Ocasio.
“We are so excited to host the American Legion here in Greenport,” Ocasio said. “The layout is perfect for what we intend to bring, with the spacious ceilings and the stage.”
Added Dixon: “For 40 years, the Greenport American Legion has been absent from the biggest form of entertainment in the entire world. On Sunday, March 17th, we're bringing it back. We're going to put on an in-your-face show. Full of action. You won't be able to walk away. Solve it – we're going for a St. Patrick's Day ride!”
He added: “Professional wrestling is the most popular form of entertainment around the world. It has no barriers and can reach the hearts of men, women and children of any background. You have to sit down and watch an action movie before long and live through these larger than life performers. You'll laugh, you'll shout, you'll have fun.”
On Sunday, Dixon said, “We're bringing the action to the Greenport American Legion, whose spacious ceilings will be echoing with fans all night long.”
Marc LaMaina, owner of Lucharitos restaurants, added, “To say we're excited to bring pro wrestling back to Greenport and the beautifully renovated American Legion would be an understatement. It's good family fun, and having our three boys, is what we live for Hats off to the Greenport American Legion Veterans who trusted us with the venue, to Mindy Ryan for believing in the show — and to our team of professional wrestlers who put it all on the line to bring smiles and excitement to the crowd.”
He also called out special thanks to the “long list of donors who are part of the show and the local community!”
In 2019, LaMaina had a dream. He told Patch that he missed the “good old days when we were kids and could watch our wrestling heroes fight live at the local American Legion.”
And so, he set out to transform a dream into reality and bring live professional wrestling back to the North Fork.
He wasn't the only one looking forward to the action, LaMaina said. “My kids are excited to see the ring up close and meet the wrestlers after the show. It's a small town wrestling some big names.”
As early as 2019, LaMaina said he was excited to discuss the possibility of partnering with Greenport's American Legion Burton Potter Post 185 for future events.
“This is just the beginning of seeing wrestling back on the North Fork. And Louharitos is proud to be a part of making it happen,” LaMaina said at the time.
Even the name of his business resonates, LaMaina told Patch, “Lucharitos translates to little fighter. My son Joey was in the hospital with a very high fever when he was one month old, at the same time we were thinking of a name for the bar . ” he said. “Well the little fighter was him.”
