LONG ISLAND, NY — Although rain is headed for Long Island Wednesday night and into Thursday, skies are expected to dry out in time for the arrival of the Easter Bunny.
Rain was moving west to east across Long Island Wednesday, with temperatures in the low 50s, according to James Tomasini, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton. The rain is expected to start falling around midnight, he said.
Long Islanders should expect a wet day Thursday, with rain tapering off from the west to the east Thursday night, Tomasini said. About 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 inches is expected in total, with higher amounts across the East End, he said. Temperatures Thursday are expected to range from the upper 40s to the low 50s, he said.
Friday through the first half of Saturday is expected to be dry, with possible lingering rain across the North Fork and South Fork early Friday. Temperatures will remain in the low to mid-50s, Tomasini said.
As for Saturday, the first half of the day is forecast to be dry, with a slight chance of rain in the second half, until Saturday night. The temperature will range from the low to high 50s, he said.
Easter Sunday looks dry, with highs in the low to upper 50s, Tomasini said, with clouds easing during the day for a mostly sunny afternoon.
