HAMPTON BAY, N.Y. — A Hampton Bays man was arrested Sunday after he hit someone, tried to attack police officers and threatened to hurt multiple people and burn down a house, police said.
According to Southampton Police, a report came in at 3:34 p.m. for a physical altercation on East Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays.
Yamit A. Hurtado, 44, was arrested and charged with second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a misdemeanor, police said.
Hurtado verbally and physically harassed another person, threatening to hit them with a sign before finally hitting them, police said. He was arrested and taken to police headquarters where, while being processed, he attempted to assault officers, causing property damage at police headquarters, police said.
Hurtado was additionally charged with fourth-degree felony, a misdemeanor, willful destruction of property at Southampton police headquarters, authorities said.
In addition, Hurtado was also charged with second-degree harassment when, during the investigation, a woman came to police headquarters to report that Hurtado had harassed her earlier in the day at a private residence in Hampton Bays, where he threatened to harm her. . several people and her house burned down, police said.
