Divaria Productions, along with Bay Street Theater successfully presented Francis Poulenc and Jean Cocteau's 1930 one-act tragedy, “La Voix Humaine,” on October 2 at 8:00 PM live on the Bay Street Stage. Acclaimed director JADiaz's vision to combine both operatic soprano Ashley Galvani Bell and the acting talents of James Patrick Nelson turned out to be pure genius.
Ms. Bell dazzled Bay Street opera loving audiences with perhaps her most powerful performance on the Bay Street stage to date. Her emotional, physical performance enhanced her beautiful voice as she exemplified the essence of a lover suffering suicidal pain over a failed relationship.
Hearing and watching Ashley Galvani Bell sing in French seemed to put the audience in awe of Ms. Bell's talents.

James Patrick Nelson on the other hand, playing the male version of the same part (Elle) mirrored Ms. Bell's movements to give the two an effect he knew director Diaz would emphasize to the audience. that of how the pain of broken love affects both sexes.
Opera coach and pianist Zalman Kelber accompanied Ms. Bell with a touch and skill set that soothed yet accentuated every vocal effect manifested in her role as Elle in the show.

The performance was a great success as the opera-savvy audience stood as one to applaud at the end.
You'd be wise to keep your eyes peeled for Divaria's next production. Ashley Galvani Bell always delivers a strong and memorable performance and in “La Voix Humaine”, she was at the top of her game all evening.
