SAG HARBOR, N.Y. — Justin Timberlake's license was suspended in a mock appeal in Sag Harbor on Friday, according to NBC.
According to NBC, Judge Carl Irace also accused Timblerlake's attorney of making “irresponsible” comments and threatened a gag order. He reportedly suspended the license because Timberlake refused to take a breathalyzer test, the report said.
Timberlake's attorney Edward Burke Jr. hds has requested a new trial date in connection with the pop star's DWI arrest in Sag Harbor, asking that the case be dismissed on a technicality — and also saying the performer was not drunk and should not have been arrested .
Burke Jr. appeared at a hearing in Sag Harbor Justice Court last week without Timberlake, who, according to his world tour schedule, was scheduled to appear in Poland on July 26.
Timberlake has a new, mock trial date this Friday, magistrate court officials told Patch.
Burke filed a motion to dismiss the case “with an insufficient indictment” — because the original charging document did not have a sergeant's signature, he said.
In a statement, the DA's office said: “Following Justin Timberlake's arrest, the DA's Office identified a clerical error in the original indictment. Subsequently, on July 2, 2024, an amended indictment was filed that corrects this error. The facts and the circumstances of the case have not been changed or modified.”
The DA's office added, “We are prepared to litigate the underlying facts of this case in court and not in the press.”
In a statement, Burke said: “The most important fact to know about this case is that Justin was not drunk and should not have been arrested for DWI. The police made a number of very important mistakes in this case .In court today, you heard the prosecutor correct one of these mistakes, and there are many others that the police sometimes make, and this is just one of those law enforcement incidents treated them with the respect they deserve.
According to a Sag Harbor Village police spokesperson, Timberlake, 43, was arrested in the “early morning hours” of June 18 on a DWI charge and taken away.
Sag Harbor police said that at 12:37 a.m. Timberlake, Tennessee, was seen driving a 2025 BMW southbound on Madison Street and failing to stop at a properly posted stop sign and failing to maintain his lane.
A Sag Harbor Village police officer initiated a traffic stop and, upon investigation, determined that Timberlake was driving under the influence. He was arrested, processed and held overnight for morning arraignment, police said, the same protocol as any other DWI arrest.
Timberlake was arraigned in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court and released on his own recognizance, police said. Burke released a statement after he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor.
“I look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake on these allegations,” Burke said. “I will have more to say at the appropriate time, but right now I am awaiting full discovery from the DA's office.” Police released a mug shot of Timberlake after he was arrested for DUI in Sag Harbor — and taken into custody Burke told Patch that Timberlake was charged with just one count of DWI, a misdemeanor. refused to take a breathalyzer test, he said. He was also cited for vehicle and traffic violations after failing to stop at a stop sign and stay in his lane, Burke said. Timberlake has pleaded not guilty, he confirmed. “There was no accident,” Burke said. “No one was injured.” Timberlake was released without bond, Burke said.
A report by PIX11 as well as various media outlets said court documents revealed that Timberlake told police, “I had a martini and I followed my friends home.” The New York Post reported that Timberlake's criminal complaint said: his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of alcohol came from his breath, he could not divide attention, he had slow speech, he was unsteady and did not perform well in all standardized field sobriety tests.'
NBC reported that Timberlake had dined at the iconic American Hotel and was headed to a friend's house when police arrested him. The identity of this friend has not yet been revealed. A representative for Timberlake could not immediately be reached. Meanwhile, fans have shown their love on various tour dates, and Timberlake has expressed his gratitude.
A video from a fan's TikTok account showed pop star Timberlake addressing the crowd at a concert in Chicago shortly after his arrest: “We've been together through ups and downs, left and right,” he said. “It's been a rough week, but you're here, and I'm here, and nothing can change right now. I know sometimes it's hard to love, but you keep loving me and I love you right back.”
He blew a kiss to his fans. Timberlake is currently in the middle of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour. the 55-and-over city tour has sold over a million tickets so far for more than 85 shows. He is scheduled to continue with the European leg of the tour until October, when he is scheduled to perform at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
