As an adventurous young lady, you could always find me exploring the outdoors and its beauty. Around the age of seven, I was bitten by a tick and developed a fever of 104 degrees.
A healthy child should not experience chronic muscle and joint pain, brain fog, and fatigue. I had constant “growing” pains in my arms and legs. My mom and grandma used to rub menthol pain cream on me almost every night. However, I would wake up crying in pain, wanting to go to the hospital.
After years of suffering, I went to the doctor when I was 18 and finally got the diagnosis – it was Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that you get from the bite of an infected tick. At first, Lyme disease usually causes symptoms such as a rash, fever, headache, and fatigue. But if not treated early, the infection can spread to your joints, heart and nervous system.
After the initial antibiotic treatment, my symptoms persisted. I was then misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia and prescribed pharmaceutical drugs. Diagnosed with Lyme once again by a specialist, they just gave me more meds. After rounds of antibiotics and enduring their endless list of side effects, I decided to stop using them all together.
In 2016, I visited a friend in California and came across cannabidiol – commonly referred to as CBD. Desperate to ease my pain, I decided to give it a try. The first time I tried CBD, I felt immediate relief. My muscle and joint pain subsided. I didn't wake up in the middle of the night to pour cream all over myself.
