SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — Firefighters rushed to battle a house that caught fire in Southampton Tuesday night.
According to Southampton Fire Department Public Information Officer and former Chief Chris Brenner Sr., at 9:57 p.m., the department was called to a fire on Henry Street in Southampton Village.
Southampton Village Police arrived on scene and reported a heavy fire in the rear of the home. There were no residents or pets when the fire started, Brenner said.
The first crew from the Southampton Fire Department was able to knock out most of the fire, Brenner said. There was extensive fire damage to the rear of the home and extensive water damage throughout the residence, Brenner said.
All units left home at 11:51 p.m
Southampton Fire Brigade Assistant Chief Richard Fowler, incident commander for the scene, called for a rapid response team from Hampton Bays Fire Brigade, an engine from North Sea Fire Brigade and Bridgehampton Fire Brigade to cover the Southampton Fire Service area. Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance, which had two ambulances on scene to evaluate firefighters, was led by Chief Kyle McGuinness, who called for assistance from Hampton Bays Ambulance and Bridgehampton Ambulance, Brenner said.
One firefighter was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Southampton firefighters were called to the scene. Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services dispatched two fire dispatchers to assist the fire chief.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Brenner said.
“On behalf of the Southampton Fire Chief's Office, they would like to thank all the mutual aid, fire and EMS departments for their assistance tonight,” Brenner said. “It was another hot night for the members but they did an amazing job.”
