WATER MILL, NY — An intoxicated Riverhead man was arrested after he rear-ended a police vehicle in Water Mill and tried to flee the scene, authorities said.
According to Southampton Police, the incident occurred Tuesday at approximately 6:41 p.m. Kevin Sagastume, 23, was observed driving a motor vehicle while attempting to exit a private dirt road on Montauk Highway, he said the police. He made a right turn and sideswiped an empty Southampton police vehicle, which was on the side of the road with its emergency lights on while Southampton police conducted an unrelated investigation, authorities said.
Sagastume fled the scene, heading west on County Road 39A. he was then stopped and found to be intoxicated, police said.
Sagastume was arrested and transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters for arrest processing. held off to appear at Southampton Magistrates' Court during this morning's arraignment, police said.
Sagastume was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and leaving the scene of an accident, a misdemeanor, police said.
