SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. — Once again, the city of Southampton police will join an effort to keep harmful drugs out of the community's homes.
“Operation Medicine Cabinet”, which takes place on Saturday 28 October from 10am to 2pm, will give residents of the city the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted prescription drugs.
The aim is to keep drugs out of the hands of young people and also to make sure they are disposed of in a way that does not affect the water table, after being improperly flushed down the toilet.
Drugs can be dropped off at the Southampton Town Police Substation, located at Brideghampton Commons, 2044 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, NY 11932.
They can also be dropped off at the Hampton Bays Community Centre, 25 Ponquogue Avenue, Hampton Bays, NY 11946 or the Flanders Community Centre, located at 655 Flanders Road, Flanders, NY 11901.
Products accepted include over-the-counter medications. prescription drugs; medications for household pets; and medicated lotions or ointments. Items not accepted include needles or other “sharp” thermometers; business or professional waste; and liquid medication.
The event is sponsored by the City of Southampton Police Department and the Southampton Youth Bureau.
