According to Charmaine DeRosa, who works with dog tracker Teddy Henn of Long Island Lost Dog Search and Rescue, Henn didn't just search the woods, but a specific residential area where spots had been reported.
“It was freezing rain. Frills everywhere,” DeRosa said. Hen said a call came in that Uva was found outside a house.
Long Island Lost Dog Search & Rescue thanked everyone who came to the search, including Henn and his dog Winston, Tracy McLaren, Patricia Demott-Dussault and Detective Sergeant Lisa Costa and the Southampton Town Police Department, for droning and research assistance.
Henn's mission is to bring all lost dogs home to their families. “Let's keep saving them,” he said.
According to Southampton police, the crash happened on the Sunrise Freeway Friday near exit 65 westbound in Hampton Bays at 9:30 a.m.
One of the people involved in the crash lost his dog when it spooked and ran into the woods, police said.
NYPD, Southampton police and animal control officers combed the woods on foot and used a drone to look for the small white Pomeranian, but the dog, Uva, was not initially found, authorities said.
But thanks to a caring community, it is said, Juva was reunited with her family.
“It was such a relief. The most powerful tool was flyers and boots on the ground,” DeRosa said. “It's great when it's a happy ending.”
