BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — A little dog had a big adventure on Long Island Sunday afternoon.
According to Southampton Police, at approximately 1:17 p.m., officers responded to a report of a lost dog at the Long Island Rail Road station, located at 30 Maple Avenue in Bridgehampton.
“Responding officers quickly realized this was not a traditional lost or runaway pet scenario,” police said.
The woman who called the police told them she was at the train station with her son, 16, who wanted to take the train and head to Babylon.
While at the train station, they discovered that the train route was not operating and that they would have to travel to Babylon by bus instead, police said. As the couple tried to figure out what to do, their dog Biscuit, an 8-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, who was in his carrier, was unknowingly loaded onto the bus, police said.
The woman and her son decided not to take the bus and in the confusion took it
I didn't realize the dog had been loaded onto the bus and left, police said.
The couple began frantically searching for their dog, which led to the 911 call, police said.
The responding officer, after speaking with a female, relayed the information to dispatch. Southampton police dispatchers began calling multiple agencies in an effort to try to locate the bus, as well as find an agency to help locate the small dog, which was on the bus, police said.
Babylon Village Code Enforcement responded to the Babylon train station, where Biscuit was found safe and sound, police said.
Shortly after, Biscuit was reunited with his family.
