FLANDERS, NY — The community is opening its hearts to a Flanders man who spent a lifetime giving back.
“In February 2023, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Fred Jr., was diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer,” a GiveSendGo page, Support Fred Korte, said.
Korte, the page said, has been an active member of the Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps for more than 35 years and served on the board. he's also a dedicated school bus driver, “with a love for all students and an overall community staple.”
Unfortunately, the page said, “due to the aggressive nature of his diagnosis, he will not be able to work during these periods. While insurance will cover some of the treatment costs and some medications, the cost of transportation, meals, medications and daily expenses are starting to pile up.”
With the added financial burden, he needs help, those who love him said.
“Any amount would be appreciated and more helpful than you can ever know. Thank you all, God bless and please keep us all, especially Fred Jr. in your prayers,” the page said.
Those whose lives he has touched also reached out to share the page.
“When our community needs an ambulance, you get the help you need and it's because of volunteers like Fred Korte,” said friend Susan Tocci. “He was there to help our community — now it's his turn to get help in his fight against his recent diagnosis of pancreatic and liver cancer. If you can donate any amount, it all adds up. He's got a fight on his hands, but with support and help, as he has helped others, he can beat the cancers a–!”
Corte's wife Veronica told Pats how grateful they are for the outpouring of love: “We appreciate all the support we've been shown so far and I'm very grateful and very blessed,” she said.
