NORTH SEA, N.Y. — A Mastic Beach man was arrested Wednesday night after being found with cocaine during a traffic stop in North Sea, police said.
According to Southampton Police, Carlos Garcia Garcia, 32, was arrested at 11:20 p.m. and charged with two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of drugs, as well as two counts of missing/displaying an improper license plate. two counts of failure to stop at a stop sign and two counts of no/insufficient lighting equipment violation.
While on routine patrol at approximately 10:20 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle southbound on Scotts Landing Road with its passenger headlight inoperative and no front license plate affixed to the vehicle, police said.
As the officer began following the vehicle, the driver accelerated and turned east onto Harris Lane, ran a stop sign and turned north onto North Sea Road, police said.
The officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver pulled into the road on Old Field Lane before stopping, police said.
While interviewing GarciaGarcia, a strong odor of burning marijuana was smelled, police said. Additionally, a white powdery substance was visible on the center console and a small white rock with what appeared to be cocaine was clearly visible on the passenger side floor, police said.
Garcia Garcia field tested positive for cocaine, police said.
During a search of the vehicle, a container was located in the center console containing several small bags of a white powdery substance that also appeared to be cocaine, police said.
Garcia Garcia was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for processing, police said.
