CLINTON, CT — Christmas may be the “most wonderful time of the year,” but in Clinton, at least, the end of April is a very close second, and ice cream has a lot to do with it.
Flowers are blooming, temperatures are rising, baseballs are flying over fences, and those seasonal, artisanal ice cream parlors are finally reopening. The average American eats about 20 pounds, or about 4 gallons, of the frozen sweet treat each year, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and most of that pleasurable overindulgence starts right now.
Patch wants to know where in the Clinton area you go to satisfy your frozen sweet tooth. Craving cookies and cream? Want a French Vanilla? Pin for peanut? Leching after a good dulce de leche? Tell us in the survey below.
From quaint mom-and-pop shops to trendy artisan creameries, Clinton and its surrounding neighborhoods are home to an abundance of frozen delights. But what really sets one scoop apart from the rest? Is it the richness of the ice cream itself, the creativity of the flavors or is it the decor of the shop? Whether it's the retro charm of a classic soda fountain or the relaxed atmosphere of a lakeside stand, the setting can elevate your ice cream experience from hearty to sublime.
This isn't Patch's first attempt to take the pulse of Connecticut's ice cream connoisseurs. But the previous polls were a statewide affair, and this time we want to keep it local.
Let's face it, Clinton residents in the mood for frozen dessert aren't hopping on their rides and traveling to Pomfret, no matter how promising the purple cow sounds. When you crave ice cream, you need it nowand a cross-country Odyssey isn't going to cut it.
