BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — A Bridgehampton teacher was recently lauded for her leadership, dedication, advocacy — and her mission of empowerment.
Hamra Ozsu, along with 17 others, was honored as the Suffolk County Legislative District 2 Diversity Champion at the legislature's April 4 general assembly.
In nearly 10 years at Bridgehampton School, Ozsu has dedicated himself to empowering students with leadership skills and advocating for equity by promoting cultural sensitivity and awareness, the school district said.
She has coordinated events and a literacy workshop for students and families, serves on the health and wellness committee and implemented leadership-based after-school clubs, the district said.
She has also served as director of the municipal student government, communication and leadership club, with decision-making roles and involvement in culturally responsive fundraising activities.
Ozsu is the PBIS and assembly coordinator, leading a monthly assembly program that highlights student achievements and presents programs that highlight traditions from around the world, the district said.
“Our school community is honored to have Ms. Ozsu as a leader in her deep understanding and appreciation for others,” said Superintendent Dr. Mary T. Kelly. “Her positive influence and guidance are a reflection of the numerous roles she takes on to fully empower not only our students, but their families in turn.”
