BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — Local heroes were honored during a third annual Veterans Day presentation by the Bridgehampton Union Free School District.
The event, held Nov. 8, “recognized the bravery and sacrifices of those who have served our country,” school officials said.
Principal Michael Cox opened the ceremony by emphasizing the importance of Veterans Day, emphasizing the profound impact that veterans' service has had on both the nation and the local community.
“Today, we gather to express our gratitude and honor veterans for their selflessness, setting a standard for what it means to truly serve,” said Director Cox.
As part of the ceremony, Bridgehampton Elementary School's student government presented roses to each veteran in attendance, “symbolizing respect and appreciation for their service,” the district said.
Foreign language teacher Diane Lizzol stood with photos representing her three family members who have served the country as one of her students presented her with three roses.
The event, organized by Bridgehampton staff members Hamra Ozsu and Dave Elliot, also featured a special musical performance by The Jazz Loft in Stony Brook, whose Big Band performed patriotic songs.
“The Bridgehampton school community is proud of this annual tradition, which brings together local veterans, students, faculty and residents to reflect on the day's significance and show support for those who have served,” school officials said.
