A Bridgehampton horsewoman defended her turf, taking home the title of Grand Champion Children's Hunter at the 38th annual Hampton Classic Horse Show on Tuesday.
Erica Ferreira and His Way won the Children's Hunter Large Pony Championship, before it was named the Grand Championship.
Other winners were:
- Blu Venture, who drove Hensley Humphriesof Short Hills, NJ, and Simply Magical, riding Stella Prop of New York, captured the championships in the two divisions of the Children's Hunter Small/Medium Pony division.
- Lilly, come on Lily Halterman of New York, won the Children's Hunter Horse, 14 & Under championship.
- Carmona, ride Page Israel of New York, won the Children's Hunter Horse Championship, 15-17.
Four $2,500 Marshall & Sterling Hunter Classics were also held, one for the two pony divisions and one for the two horse age groups.
Caroline Cline, of New York, took home first in Small Talk in the $2,500 Marshall & Sterling Children's Hunter Horse, 15-17, Classic. The 17-year-old junior at Riverdale Country School took the lead in the first round and turned in an even better performance in the second round.
Other winners were:
- Coco Faithof Fairfield, Conn., rode Monopolu to win the Marshall & Sterling Children's Hunter Horse, 14 & Under, Classic.
- Catherine Pizzaof Port Washington, rode Rhyme 'N Reason to win the Marshall & Sterling Small/Medium Pony Classic.
- Sabrina Livinifrom Shoreham, rode Benlea Sea Wolf to win the Marshal & Sterling Large Pony Classic.
The 38th annual Hampton Classic Horse Show runs through Sunday, September 1 and features world-class show jumping competition, as well as great shopping and a variety of entertainment attractions. The Classic features six show rings with more than 100 classes of competition for horses and riders of all ages. A wide range of jumper, hunter, parity, short stirrup and top line classes form part of the Classic's programme, as well as competitions for disabled riders.
The Classic features an FEI-recognized Grand Prix on three consecutive days – the $50,000 Spy Coast Farm/Young Horse Show Series Preliminary Grand Prix presented by Longines on Friday, the $40,000 Longines Cup on Saturday and the $250,000 FTI World Cup and FEI ™ Qualifier on Sunday. The world-renowned field of riders will also seek to win the new Longines Rider Challenge which awards $30,000 to the rider who accumulates the most points in the Open Jumper division of the horse show.
The FTI Grand Prix is part of the Taylor Harris Triple Crown Challenge, which awards a $200,000 bonus if the same horse and rider combination wins the $100,000 Wells Fargo Grand Prix of Devon, the $250,000 FTI Grand Prix at the Hampton Classic and the $250.00 Alltech Award at Alltech National Horse Show. McLain Ward won the Wells Fargo Grand Prix of Devon on Rothchild in May and will now earn the $200,000 bonus if he rides Rothchild to victory in the remaining two events in the Taylor Harris Triple Crown Challenge.
