The National Weather Service has now issued a winter storm warning for the East End as a major winter storm targets the area on Saturday.
A winter storm warning will be in effect from 7 a.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday.
Several forecast models “all point toward a significant snowfall event across eastern LI,” the NWS says. Most of the East End will see 4-8 inches of snow Saturday, but up to 10 inches is possible.
There is about a 35 percent chance of more than 6 inches, according to NWS snowfall projection maps.
Snow will develop Saturday morning and continue into the evening.
According to the NWS, a winter storm warning for heavy snowfall means severe winter weather is expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are expected which will make travel dangerous. Travel only in case of emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
