CLINTON, CT — A man was hospitalized after police said he was kidnapped in New York and brought to Clinton by nine people, who were arrested in connection with the incident, Monday night.
Police responded around 10:35 p.m. on March 4 to a noise complaint in the parking lot of the Clinton Outlets at 20 Killingworth Turnpike. The caller reported a large group of people in the parking lot creating a disturbance after the stores closed for the evening, according to police.
Arriving officers found seven male adults and three juvenile males in the parking lot. One of the men, later identified as the victim, told police he had been kidnapped in New Rochelle, New York after being held at gunpoint and brought to Clinton by the nine other people at the scene, police said.
“A police K-9 was requested to respond to assist in the search for evidence at the scene,” police wrote in a news release. “The police K-9 assisted in locating a black facsimile firearm that looked very much like a real firearm in the woods next to where the subjects were standing. A baseball bat, police-issued pepper spray and ski masks were also found at the scene.”
Police said six adults were arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, unlawful use of a facsimile weapon, first-degree unlawful restraint, first-degree robbery, third-degree assault, second-degree menacing, conspiracy to commit first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, conspiracy to commit illegal use of a fax weapon, conspiracy to commit first-degree unlawful restraint, first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit third-degree assault, second-degree menacing and injury to a child. They were held in lieu of $250,000 bond.
The three juveniles were arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, unlawful use of a facsimile weapon, first-degree unlawful restraint, first-degree robbery, third-degree assault, second-degree menacing, conspiracy to commit first-degree. kidnapping with a firearm, conspiracy to fax a firearm, conspiracy to commit unlawful restraint in the first degree, robbery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit third degree assault and second degree menacing. All were taken into custody at the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center, police said.
Police said all those arrested were from New York, except for one man from Stamford.
The victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries, according to police.
“The kidnapping appears to have been a targeted and isolated incident with the victim known to the perpetrators,” said Sgt. Spencer Mangs said in an email. “There is no continuing threat to the public.”
