SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. —Southampton Township police have charged two people with drunken driving after two separate crashes this weekend, authorities said.
First, on Saturday, Southampton police responded to a report of a collision on County Road 39 with one of the vehicles involved leaving the scene, authorities said. Police said they were able to locate the vehicle that left the scene on Gravel Hill Road in Hampton Bays.
Dario Lopez-Bravo, 38, of Hampton Bays, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, a misdemeanor and two other traffic violations, police said. He was taken to Police Headquarters for processing and held for arraignment, police said.
On Sunday, an accident was reported on Riverside Avenue in Flanders in which a driver struck a parked car and also a utility pole, then fled the scene, police said.
A vehicle with damage consistent with a crash was located, police said. Edward Bernal-Veasquez, 25, of Riverhead, was found in the driver's seat of the vehicle and was found to be intoxicated, police said.
Bernal-Veasquez was arrested and taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, released from the hospital a short time later and transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters for processing. was held for a morning statement, police said. Bernal-Veasquez was charged with misdemeanor DWI, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, trespassing and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.
